Aasaan Praathamik Shikshan using AViTA

A scheme for imparting elementary education - basic reading, writing and arithmetic skills in an interesting, playful manner using a Audio-Visual teaching aid, AViTA. Makes learning easy and fun.

What makes AViTA special?
Success of a mass literacy program requires a simple yet effective teaching scheme

Research has proved that repetition of alphabets and words in different forms (audio and visual) is the most effective way to teach. The teacher must patiently expose her students to the alphabets, numbers, words, shapes and sounds repeatedly in a playful manner to ensure recollection and understanding.

A motivated teacher, teaching with the help of a blackboard can at most repeat the lesson about five times. But is that good enough? Do all teachers do it?

The reality today:

  1. With only 1% of the funds, AViTA can be installed across all centers  in India.
  2. The adult literacy numbers are dismally low at x% with almost no  growth.
  3. Most teachers typically repeat the lesson once and have no        continued association with their students to ensure learning.
  4. No attention has been paid to the teaching formats used at different centers resulting in huge variations in effectiveness of programs across India.
  5. There have been no efforts to measure if students that attended literacy programs have been able to use their skills after the lesson.
Benefits of AViTA:

AViTA is not a PC
Many attempts have been made to use PCs for imparting It has a large LED based display and loud audio- suitable for class room teaching.

Guarantees effective teaching through repetition
AViTA will repeat the lesson 20 or more times as required, ensuring everyone's participation and go on doing it everyday till the slowest student has learnt the lesson.

Makes learning fun and ensures student participation
After the students have watched and heard the lesson few times, they will be asked to join in and start speaking out along with AViTA. They are now participating in the lesson and therefore feel interested and motivated.

Divides the script to simplify
Teaching of script has been further simplified by dividing the script into four logical modules. This division makes the script simple to teach and simple to grasp. Initially, a student is exposed to only the first module comprising of 18 alphabets and 5 matras:

Only after they have fully learnt to read, write and form words and sentences with these, they are introduced to successive modules of the script. Each successive module uses the already learnt module as anchor for learning the new module. To facilitate teaching of script, AViTA has a special feature that breaks down a given word into its constituent alphabets and matras and displays them as moving text along with synchronized audio in such a manner that the onlooker instantly starts
understanding how alphabets and matras are put together to form words.

Makes it easy to conduct simple tests while teaching
Teachers can use the audio visual features effectively to create simple tests - for example, by switching off AViTA's sound but allowing the visual scrolling of the alphabet, the teacher can ask students to speak out in sync with the moving display. This simple test can be repeated several times till the students get it right.

Well prepared lessons for each day
AViTA holds well prepared lessons for each day. An instructor has to simply follow the instructions. He can also prepare his own lessons in minutes.
